Matt James – National Management Trainee
I’m currently on the National Graduate Development Programme with Bexley. It’s a two year programme and I rotate my placement every six months. My first placement was providing policy support to the Chief Executive, my second placement was in the Education to Employment team and currently I am working in the Regeneration and Assets team.
Whilst working in the Education to Employment team, I got involved with a really exciting and ambitious new project called the Place and Making Institute. The aim of the Institute is to bring together learning providers, employers and professional bodies on one campus to support the development of the future built-environment workforce. This is a critical project that will help to deliver ‘good growth’ across the region, supporting proposals for new homes in Bexley, London and the South East.
In my time at Bexley so far, I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of really interesting projects where I’ve taken responsibility and been trusted by my colleagues. I’ve observed how ambitious the Council is in wanting to benefit from the growth opportunities coming from Central London while keeping to the traditions of its suburban location.
